Anglian Water Services Ltd convicted in Environment Agency case.

Anglian Water Services Ltd found guilty of failing to provide records as required by the Environment Agency.

The water company was convicted, with the sentencing hearing scheduled for July 5th, 2024, at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court.

The case was brought by the Environment Agency as part of a broader criminal investigation into potential non-compliance with environmental permit conditions at over 2,000 wastewater treatment works operated by all ten water companies.

The Environment Agency had served several statutory requirements for records on Anglian Water Services Ltd, which the company was found guilty of failing to respond to, without a reasonable excuse, between January 2022 and January 2023, contrary to the Environment Act 1995.

Despite Anglian Water Services Ltd’s not guilty plea and claim of a reasonable excuse, the District Judge, Kenneth Sheraton, rejected their defense after considering the evidence.
