Sanepar (the Sanitation Company of Paraná) has granted ACCIONA the concession contract for sanitary sewer services across 48 municipalities in the West and Center-East microregions of Paraná, located in southern Brazil.
This public-private partnership entails an investment exceeding €324 million in sanitation infrastructure, which includes sewer networks, pumping stations, and wastewater treatment facilities, along with their operation and maintenance for the next 24 years.
The initiative aims to enhance sewer service access in the West microregion from the current 25% to complete sanitation coverage by 2033.
Additionally, the contract will ensure that the entire population has access to adequate and equitable sanitation services, thereby improving water quality returned to the environment and decreasing pollution levels. Consequently, water-related ecosystems, such as rivers, aquifers, and lakes, will be safeguarded and restored.
Aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6, this project will significantly increase access to sanitation services for thousands, contributing to improved quality of life and fostering sustainable development in the region.
This contract is part of a broader initiative aimed at serving 112 municipalities in the West and Center-East regions, divided into three segments, with ACCIONA’s awarded segment being the largest in both financial value and number of municipalities involved. Through these agreements, the Paraná government intends to triple the population’s access to sanitation, targeting over 323,800 people within ten years.
This award underscores ACCIONA’s role as a pivotal contributor to sustainable infrastructure solutions, reaffirming its dedication to the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda, particularly in achieving SDG 6: ensuring the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for everyone.
