Delivering Pure Drinking Water with Natural Efficiency: Filtralite® Pure at Janiksenlinna WTP
Filtralite® Pure filter media has a unique porous structure that creates ideal conditions for water to flow through the filter bed, enhancing its ability to retain contaminants.
Meeting the Needs of a Growing Population
In the Finnish city of Oulu, home to over 200,000 residents, the demand for clean and reliable drinking water is ever-increasing. The Janiksenlinna Water Treatment Plant plays a crucial role in meeting this need.
The Challenge: Beyond Traditional Filtration
With rising expectations for water quality and efficiency, the plant needed an upgrade from conventional sand filters to a solution that could offer both enhanced performance and long-term sustainability.
The Solution: Filtralite® Pure NC 1.5–2.5
By introducing Filtralite® Pure, an expanded clay media with exceptional porosity and surface area, the plant achieved:
- Higher filtration capacity at faster flow rates
- Reduced frequency of backwashing
- Lower operational costs
- Reliable compliance with EU drinking water standards
A Proven Success in Oulu and Beyond
This upgrade not only secured a safer water supply for Oulu’s residents, but also positioned Filtralite® as a leading choice for sustainable and high-efficiency water treatment across Europe.
We set out to explore an alternative material to sand and, in 2018, we ended up trying Filtralite.
The difference from the past is obvious. A sand filter had to be washed every two days, while a Filtralite filter can last a week.
