Global water solutions firm Xylem (NYSE: XYL) has announced its acquisition of a majority stake in Idrica, a frontrunner in water data management and analytics, aimed at equipping water utilities with innovative solutions to tackle their most pressing challenges.
The integration of Xylem Vue, which merges Xylem’s current digital water solutions with Idrica’s technology platform, will enable customers to confront critical issues like water scarcity and deteriorating infrastructure through real-time insights. This collaboration will facilitate a deeper integration of their offerings, enhancing the overall customer experience.
“Strengthening our partnership with Idrica is essential to our strategy of providing intelligent solutions to our clients,” stated Matthew Pine, CEO of Xylem. “Together, we can help them gain deeper visibility into their networks and leverage insights to tackle enduring issues such as water loss more efficiently and cost-effectively than ever.”
Jaime Barba, CEO of Idrica and head of Xylem Vue, remarked, “Water utilities face daily challenges from complex systems that hinder data-driven decision-making. Our enhanced partnership will empower water and wastewater utilities to connect and manage their digital assets, streamlining operations with a straightforward, secure, and comprehensive perspective.”
In the past eighteen months, water utilities globally have adopted the Xylem Vue integrated software and analytics platform to enhance their infrastructure, reduce costs, and adapt to evolving conditions.
For instance, the City of Hot Springs, Arkansas, improved its operations by implementing virtual district metering areas through Xylem Vue. This integrated platform allowed the city to identify areas of significant water loss by creating smaller, more manageable zones within the network. As a result of these advanced digital solutions, Hot Springs achieved nearly a 50% reduction in non-revenue water loss.
Another case is Monterrey, Mexico, where Servicios de Agua y Drenaje de Monterrey, I.P.D. (SADM), serving a metropolitan population of 5.3 million, sought a digital solution to monitor severe drought conditions and enhance operational efficiency.
Xylem Vue enabled SADM to implement smart monitoring and management of water pressure, flow, and consumption. The platform also assists the utility in detecting potential anomalies that indicate both visible and hidden leaks. Consequently, SADM has achieved overall water savings of 17%, with certain key pipeline sections realizing savings of up to 37%, significantly boosting its operational efficiency and management.
