Thames Water appoints Turner & Townsend as new Programme Partner to support delivery of future water resources.

Thames Water has engaged Turner & Townsend to assist in executing various nationally important water supply initiatives aimed at addressing the needs of a growing population and the impacts of climate change, such as increasingly hotter and drier summers.

Among the projects is a new reservoir near Abingdon in Oxfordshire, referred to as SESRO (South East Strategic Reservoir Option), which aims to secure future water supplies for approximately 15 million customers in the South East, including those served by Thames Water, Southern Water, and Affinity Water.

Additionally, the program partner will aid in the implementation of the Teddington Direct River Abstraction project, designed to safeguard London’s water supply during periods of drought.

The company anticipates that by 2050, an additional 1 billion liters of water per day will be required across London and the Thames Valley—enough to fill 400 Olympic-sized swimming pools.

Turner & Townsend’s selection follows a thorough procurement process where they showcased significant experience in managing and supporting large, complex infrastructure projects, including Crossrail, HS2, Heathrow Airport, and the Lower Thames Crossing.

Mohit Farmah, Head of Procurement and Supply Chain at Thames Water, stated: “The program partner framework gives us access to a wide range of program management and controls professionals with proven success in delivering major infrastructure initiatives.”

“Turner & Townsend exhibited extensive and relevant experience in developing and supporting Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects. Having access to top-tier industry experts is vital as we work to ensure future water supplies for generations ahead.”

James Corrigan, UK Managing Director, Infrastructure at Turner & Townsend, remarked: “We are excited to enhance our partnership with Thames Water through this new role. We will provide professional program management and controls services to support the development and execution of its Strategic Resources Options Programme (SRO programme).”

“In collaboration with Laing O’Rourke Delivery Limited and The Nichols Group Limited, we will utilize our collective global expertise to assist Thames Water in achieving its long-term goals for our communities and the environment.”
