South East Water Reveals Ambitious Plans for New Reservoirs and Desalination Plant.

A £2.3 billion initiative aimed at ensuring reliable drinking water supplies in Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire, and Berkshire for the next 50 years has been unveiled by South East Water.

The strategy encompasses efforts to reduce leaks and enhance water efficiency, the construction of new reservoirs, desalination and recycling projects, along with a network of new pipelines to optimize water distribution across the southeast.

Central to this initiative, the 50-year Water Resources Management Plan 2024 outlines how the company intends to maintain a steady flow of water for its customers. It aims to balance the need for additional water to accommodate a growing population while safeguarding the environment and benefiting society.

Nick Price, Head of Water Resources at South East Water, stated: “Our capacity to provide water is increasingly challenged by population growth, climate change, and new environmental protection regulations.

“We’ve diligently developed a regional solution that addresses these challenges while also benefiting the environment and local communities.

“These plans are intended for the long term and consider the extreme weather patterns we’ve faced recently, as well as the evolving demand for water.

“The comprehensive plan has been shaped by thorough research, detailed data analysis, customer feedback, and collaboration with stakeholders and other interested groups.”

The full details of the plan can be accessed on the South East Water website.
