The Saudi Water Partnerships Company (SWPC) is excited to announce that it has successfully completed the evaluation of bids from the private sector for the Ras Mohaisen Independent Water Plant.
This initiative will be developed and managed by private entities over a 25-year period starting from the commercial operation date.
Notably, this project marks a pioneering effort in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, featuring significant capacity, phased development, and implementation in a new region that directly benefits Makkah and Al-Baha.
The project includes several key components:
- Phase One: Establishing a desalination facility with a capacity of 100,000 cubic meters per day, set to begin operations in early 2028.
- Phase Two: Expanding the plant to increase capacity by an additional 200,000 cubic meters per day, expected to start in early 2030, resulting in a total capacity of 300,000 cubic meters per day.
- Implementation of a water storage system capable of holding 600,000 cubic meters, ensuring reliable water supply for the regions.
- Construction of an electrical substation linked to the main power supply via a 17-kilometer transmission line to support the plant and its water transmission systems.
- Integration with existing water transmission lines from Hali Dam to Al-Shuaibah and Ras Mohaisen to Al-Baha and Makkah.
Following the bid evaluation, SWPC has selected the preferred bidder: ACWA Power, Haji Abdullah Alireza & Partners Company, and AlKifah Holding, with Acciona Company as the reserve bidder.
This project continues the collaborative efforts between the public and private sectors in water production, in line with the National Water Strategy aimed at tackling critical challenges and reforming the water sector to ensure sustainable development in accordance with Saudi Vision 2030.
