Idrica, a Spanish water technology firm, will implement a digital platform to centralize Balsas de Tenerife’s (BALTEN) billing and subscriber processes, which is a public utility managed by the Tenerife Island Council. This initiative will allow for streamlined, automated, and standardized systems.
The technological solutions, Billing One and Customer Portal, are part of the Xylem Vue platform powered by GoAigua, developed through the partnership between Idrica and Xylem.
These solutions will also organize and automate the utility’s meter network while optimizing work orders. Additionally, the tool features a GIS and BALTEN’s web portal, among other functionalities.
The primary advantages of this implementation involve optimizing the utility’s management and billing processes, leading to enhanced efficiency, improved decision-making, and better customer service. Furthermore, it sets the stage for future deployment of remote meter reading capabilities.
Jesús Rodríguez, a civil engineer in BALTEN’s Water Management and Customer Service Department, states that the goal is “to enhance the management of the irrigation water supply service, along with its material and human resources.” He believes that “the potential for future remote meter reading makes this solution a vital component in supporting the utility’s overall digital transformation strategy.”
The customer website portal will enhance subscriber management, and operators will benefit from improved fieldwork through optimized work orders.
This tool has been successfully implemented in other international utilities, achieving a 20% cost reduction due to better efficiency in communications, transport, and work orders.
The project includes two primary phases: the first phase for tool supply and implementation, lasting one year, and a subsequent four-year maintenance phase.
This initiative is part of BALTEN’s extensive digital transformation project. Its infrastructure comprises 20 irrigation reservoirs and water tanks with a total storage capacity exceeding 5 hm³, three desalination plants (two for treated water and one for saline water), over 1,500 kilometers of conduits and pipelines for distribution, three wells, and one groundwater gallery, supplying irrigation water to more than 10,000 customers in Tenerife.
